An ode to Charla, my schmoo…
So there are some people put on this planet that inspire you. Charla is one of these people. As I am sitting here in a little cafe waiting anxiously for my first phone interview I can’t help but feel extremely grateful for Charla being in my life. She is the one that inspired me to come to Thailand. It was her, her happiness here, and her persistence in me coming that made my final decision to come here. And I think I am going to love it here. In fact I already do.
I first met Charla my first summer in Hawaii at Erdman. She facebooked me before I even got there because she went to high school in Asheville, which was super random, because that was where I was coming from. I remember she arrived late to camp, after all the other counselors, and was insanely jetlagged because she had been doing a study abroad in Bologna, Italy. Charla and I hit it off right from the start, along with our friend, Keely. We were a beautiful trio, full of bus rides to random places, many crazy nights on the beach, lots of shopping, and lots of hung over mornings in which we called “schmoopy saturdays.” Charla came back a second summer after that, and we’ve always stayed in really good touch, which is weird, because I always love my camp friends to death, but somehow I always seem to lack in the keeping in touch department.
She has been such a wonderful friend to me, and has helped me, from across the world, with advice and solace through a bitter breakup, helpful, and super positive and supportive with everything I have done and want to do. I guess she’s one of those people who have made a huge impact on my life, and I had no idea when I first met her that that would happen. Thank you Charla for everything you’ve done for me. Love you, schmooo…xoxox
